| (Bartnick) We want to keep the ship clean for health reasons. It's not just to keep the crew busy. We need to keep the ship clean so that we don't get roaches and so that people don't get sick from molds and fungi that grow when you have a lot of moisture. |

(Bartnick) We are having a material inspection, today. The inspection is not just for cleanliness, but also for safety. We will inspect for cleanliness, but we will also look for defects in safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and safety lights. |

| (Narrator) Chief Petty Officer Hans Bartnick is one of eight Chief Petty Officers aboard the Mohawk. Among other duties, Chief Bartnick is the Chief Master At Arms and is responsible for the ship's sanitation and security. The Chiefs, as they are called, are enlisted men and women with the rank of E7 and above. They report directly to the officers and supervise the lower enlisted ranks. |
